Okay, where was I? Oh, right, the evening's pillaging. Yeah. The pirate party rocked. We gave good value as fan GOHs. In addition to the usual roving, emptying out the dance, boarding parties and so on, we had a room party too. Even though it was supposed to be a surprise, somehow, word got out and even before we launched the ship for the evening, there were people crowded outside our suite, 1610. It was crazy.
Joe, our captain, knows a guy who came in and put up foamboard stone walls and arches in the room. And we had these cool torch lights. And we kept with our schtick where if you want a drink, you have to join the crew and if you want to join the crew you have to prove your piratical worth by telling a pirate joke Quartermaster Marsh hasn't heard before (very difficult), singing a pirate song, walking the plank, eating a lime or taking the lash. As you might expect at an sf convention, many, many people were all together too willing for the lash. First mate Lisa, me, Bosun Anne and the Bosun's Mate (Steve), just about lost all feeling in in our arms before the night was through. There was a line of people out the door waiting to get into the party and enjoy our wonderful ambiance (just like a New York night club), and the rum flowed. It was totally out of hand. From time to time we'd leave the party (either shutting it down, which just made people want to get back in even more or leaving some crew behind), and cruise again. We boarded the WorldCon in Montreal party, the Conclave Party, and probably some others I've forgotten. And around two-thirty in the morning we went down to the pool where I discovered that, yes, naked hot-tubbing really does go on at conventions. It's not just a rumor.
So that's about all that I a) remember b) is fit to print. Suffice to say, a good time was had by all.
I can't wait 'til the Snow Queen sails again, at Penguicon, coming up in April.

Arrr! Much appreciated!

Holy crap. Lashes, eh? -grin- Wish I could've been there. They'd never let parties like that go on at my hotel. :>( We tossed out the fraternity toga party, and no parties in the rooms.
