So I went and checked this out and guess what? With my first generation Kindle I was able to buy a book from ARe and download it instantly! This is huge, you guys. It means that Amazon does not hold the monopoly on instant-buy-and-download-from-the-device any more. The process for buying from ARe is only a little more cumbersome, but if you took advantage of their eBook Bucks, then you wouldn't have to enter a credit card number and the process would be nearly identical.
This means any ebook retailer can do this, and any ebook reader with internet access can take advantage of it. Suddenly, the field is wide open. Yippeeeee!
