So due to poor planning we didn't get to see Sherlock Holmes on New Years Eve as originally planned, but yesterday, we did get to see it and I enjoyed it very much.
There was this whole thing about sorcerers trying to take over the world and whatnot, but the movie really revolved around Watson's engagement and Holmes's hurt feelings that Watson was leaving him and his jealousy of Watson's fiance. It was great!
As Vidensidastra pointed out, it was not only m/m friendly, but m/m/f friendly as well, though my cynical mind goes more readily to, "they stick these female characters
into the story as love interests so that men who get freaked about the gay will have grounds to deny the obvious." But good on her for looking on the bright side.
My favorite part was after Watson survived getting blown up, and the two of them were sitting on the bed next to one another, too uncomfortable to say anything beyond, "Good show," and that kind of crap, but you knew they were both just filled to the brim with tender feelings for each other. It was lovely.
Jude Law rocked the house as Watson, btw. Not taking a thing from Downy as Holmes, he was great too. But Law was my favorite, for some reason. Maybe it was the calmness, contrasted with Holmes' frenetic nature. I loved:
W: "Take that out of my face."
H: "It's not in your face it's in my hand."
W: "Take what's in your hand out of my face."
Hee! Oh! and the part where we see how Holmes is bombadred with sensory information in public places, except that when Watson shows up, it all backs off. Sweet.
Okay, that's enough fangirl squeeing for now. It was a fun movie. I hope it launches a thousand fics.
