With Broken out in print now, as well as the third and final volume of the other project hitting stores last month, this is something that's been on my mind quite a bit. How we can support the authors who do work that we love?
Besides buying their books, of course. ;)
The fact is, there are some simple things every reader can do that will make a big impact in the life of a book. What's even better is they don't take long and they're easy. So, if you have an author you'd like to help out, here's what you can do:
First, go to the author's page on Amazon. In my case, that would be: http://www.amazon.com/author/jessicafreely. You will see a list of the author's books and from there, you can click on any title to visit that specific book's page.
• If you have read any of the author's books and you liked them, please leave a short review. Two or three sentences are all that is needed and you'd be amazed what a difference it makes. Amazon is now the number one bookseller in the country and reader reviews are the driving force behind sales. Rate the book with the number of stars you feel it deserves. The way the Amazon star rating scale works is: 5 stars = highly recommended, 4 stars = recommended, 3 stars = not recommended, 2 stars = I hated it, 1 star = this is the worst book ever. You don't have to buy the book from Amazon to review it there, you just have to have purchased something from them at some point in the past.
• Tag an author's books. Below customer reviews is a section entitled "Customers Also Bought Items By" and below that is a section called "Tags Customer's Associated with this Product." Click on the little boxes next to the tags you agree with. That will help other readers find the book.
• If you like the book, click the button that says "like" located near the title. If you like the author, you can do the same thing next to her name on her author page.
That's it. Three little things that make a big difference.
