Again, doing some housekeeping in my bookmarks and look what I found! An interview I did for The Advocate Online in Jan. 2010. Wow. I'd completely forgotten about this! Ha!

Now that I think of it, I remember being pretty embarrassed by the story, and I don't think I did much to spread the word at the time. Oddly enough, the part that really threw me then is probably my favorite part now: 

“Writing m/m gives me access to parts of my personality that our gender-segregated society tends to deny women,” Freely says. “And it's hot.”

Which means those graphic scenes on the page aren’t just words on paper — she really gets into it. 

Oh gawd. It's true. I do! LOL!!

Ethical Porn

There's a fascinating interiew in Salon with Ethan Hunter, founder of Anteros Media, a socially conscious gay porn company that has a number of innovative features, including sharing a portion of their proceeds with LGBTQ organizations, promoting safer sex by requiring condoms, and using exclusively gay performers. They also have a more intimate approach to filming, with an emphasis on kissing and facial expressions.

We’re working under the very specific notion that the best fantasies are inspired by reality... I find also that I’m having more trouble connecting to porn if I can’t see the guys’ faces. There’s no connection to the people. It’s so anonymous. They’re a bunch of shark attack victims, they have no heads!

And Anteros welcomes female viewers:

End the Chill: Help Homeless LGBTQ Youth this Winter

Here's a quote from an article in the Advocate about homeless LGBTQ youth here in Detroit:

Jessica, a 21-year-old African American transgender woman in Detroit, has lived a hard life.  At the age of 13, she became homeless when her family kicked her out for not conforming to gender norms. Instead of a warm home, she had to find shelter in one unsafe and abandoned building after another.

The Ruth Ellis Center, the Midwest’s only organization dedicated to working with LGBTQ runaway and homeless youth, has started an End the Chill campaign on Indiegogo, to keep their drop in center open longer during the cold winter months, so young people who have lost their homes due to their gender identity or sexual orientation, can spend some extra time in a warm, safe environment.
